Digital Literacy Labs for Seniors: Safe and Confident Online Participation

A practical training program equipping senior citizens with essential digital skills for communication, access to services, and online safety.

Digital Literacy Labs for Seniors: Safe and Confident Online Participation

To support active aging and digital inclusion, the Third Sector Portal co-created a Digital Literacy Labs program with community centers and volunteer trainers. The program targeted senior citizens who needed practical support to use smartphones, public service portals, and secure communication tools in daily life.

We designed a modular curriculum with four tracks: basic device use, digital government services, communication and telehealth access, and fraud prevention. Sessions were delivered in small groups to ensure personalized guidance, and each participant received a simple printed handbook in clear language with visual step-by-step instructions.

Over two training cycles, 180 seniors attended at least six sessions, with 74% completing the full learning pathway. Post-program assessments showed significant gains in confidence when using online services, and partner centers reported fewer support requests for routine digital tasks such as appointment booking and document retrieval.

The project demonstrated that tailored, respectful training environments can close the digital gap for older adults while strengthening their independence and social connection.
